Design tokens (colour, spacing, type as named variables shared between design and code) aren't new, but they're firmly in **established** territory now — most serious design systems assume you know what they are. Design Systems News keeps running token and governance content because teams are still figuring out the process side, not the concept.
For a junior designer, this is a gap worth closing early. It's the kind of thing that separates 'I made this look nice in Figma' from 'I understand how this scales across a product.'
