Autodesk's new Assistant and Fusion MCP let AI agents read, understand and act inside actual design files, not just chat alongside them. It's aimed at engineering teams first, but the same 'AI as an actor inside your file' pattern is spreading toward UI tools too.

Autodesk Assistant plus Fusion MCP means AI can search, understand and modify design data directly inside the tool — automating setup and routine tasks rather than just answering questions in a side panel. Why it matters for you: this is the same shift UI tools are edging towards. Right now most Figma/Penpot AI plugins are still bolt-ons that generate suggestions you paste in. Autodesk's move shows where the ceiling is — AI that reads your actual file and acts on it directly. **Label: adoption** — this is a shipped, live capability, not a roadmap promise. But it's still confined mostly to engineering/manufacturing tools, not mainstream UI design software yet.
