A 2026 State of AI Design report found 91% of designers use AI tools weekly, up from 54% in 2025. It's moved from experiment to daily habit — but that raises the bar for using it well.
The 2026 State of AI Design report shows 91% of designers now use AI at least weekly for design tasks, up from 54% a year earlier (stateofaidesign.com/chapters/tools). It's not just prototyping anymore — AI shows up in research synthesis, visual exploration and dev handoff. Designers like Anthropic's Ryan Mather now start projects from a painted sketch or mood board and let AI fill in the rest.
For juniors this matters because the differentiator isn't 'knows an AI tool' anymore — everyone does. It's judgement: knowing when AI's suggestion is wrong, and being able to say why. Don't chase every new tool. Pick one (Figma's AI features are the obvious start given your stack) and get fluent enough to spot its mistakes.
Coach
Pick one AI feature already inside Figma (not a new app) and use it on a real task this week — then write one line on where it got it wrong.
Coach is the forward habit — today's five, every morning. Surf is the rearward workbench on the same briefing corpus. Today's five is not restaged here.

AI copilots are moving from novelty to workflow
Design tooling roundups keep tracking AI showing up inside everyday steps - not one killer AI app, but assistants baked into tools you already use. The useful skill is critique, not just usage.
